Welcome to springtime in San Diego!

We have something for everyone this spring quarter!

In addition to Day at the Bay and our trips to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and the San Diego Zoo, we have scheduled a talent show, two soccer pick-up games and a trip to see San Diego’s major league baseball team, the San Diego Padres, play at Petco Park!

Baseball, entertainment, soccer, beach fun and the ‘happiest place on earth’…which of these activities will you be doing?  To sign up for any of them, come to the ticket window in Building E from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Happy Spring!

Disneyland OR California Adventure?

That’s right!  With purchase of a ticket to the activity on Saturday, March 10th, you can go to either Disneyland OR California Adventure!  Both parks are unbelievably entertaining and Disneyland is world-renowned as the happiest place on Earth!  This is one of the most popular activities here at Int’l Programs…

So what are you waiting for?  Go purchase your tickets at the ticket window in Building E on Tuesday or Wednesday from 11:30am – 1:30pm!  The price includes admission and round-trip transportation. Bring your id card and pay with either cash, credit card or travelers checks.

It’s finally here…the Soccer Cup!

Trek on over to UC San Diego’s Muir College field this Sunday, February 26, to watch your friends and classmates battle each other on the soccer field!  The first game starts at noon and you can watch all the matches for free!  There is plenty of comfortable green grass and lots of shade trees for an ideal view of the action.

If you would still like to play in the soccer cup, please come to the front desk in Building E and ask for me (Jennifer). We will take care of your registration quickly and get you set up to play!  Quick reminder:  it only costs $5 to sign up.  As we say in California, “What a bargain!”

Show us your love for the game of soccer and play in the tournament or get out there and support your friends by cheering them on!

Presidents’ Weekend

Time to celebrate Presidents’ Weekend with a day off on Monday, February 20th – there will be NO CLASSES!

There are loads of things to do in and around San Diego this weekend!  The following websites have several options for experiencing art, culture, film, and nightlife in America’s Finest City (San Diego;o)).  One of my favorite websites for this information is published by the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau:  www.sandiego.org/nav/Visitors/EventCalendar. This calendar is extremely helpful because you can search by date as well as type of activity.

Another great resource I just stumbled upon is ‘Doing San Diego’. This site focuses on free activities and special events that are happening locally. You can visit this site by clicking here:  http://doingsandiego.com/.

So get out there and enjoy Presidents’ weekend!

Whales and dolphins spotted!

It turns out that 5 to 6 whales were seen on the whale watching trip this past Sunday and the students had a wonderful time!  The day turned out gorgeous with blue sky and warm temperatures – a perfect mix for sailing out of the harbor to see the whales.  The ship also had a curious visitor that swam alongside the ship several times – a young dolphin!

If you went on the whale watching trip, what did YOU think about it? Would you recommend it to other students and why? We would love to hear your comments so please feel free to respond…

Soccer with friends…

On Sunday, February 26th, we will be having the Int’l Programs Soccer Cup!   This tournament will be a round robin soccer tournament (8 vs. 8) at UCSD’s Muir Field for any of our IP students who want to play. It only costs $5 to play three full games of soccer with your friends and classmates! This is a fantastic way to practice your English even while you are on the playing field!  Please see the brief details and rules listed below regarding the tournament and teams:

  1. Sunday, February 26, 2012; 11:30 am – 3:30 pm
  2. Anyone enrolled in ELI or any of our international programs can play, plus conversation leaders, staff or instructors!
  3. You MUST sign up at the ticket window if you want to play!  You do not need a team. Just sign up and we will match you with other students to form a team!
  4. Teams will have eight people on the field (including the goalie), plus extra players that can sub in.
  5. Only three friends can sign up to be on the same team as we encourage you to branch out and meet other students and truly make it an international experience.
  6. It only costs $5 for a half day of soccer!

If you want to sign up, please go to the ticket window on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm!  Sign up early to secure your spot in the Cup!

Have a great week and start practicing!
